I found this old spoon about a year ago at a yard sale. It's a souvenir spoon from Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeares birthplace. It had the most delightful picture on it and just called to me to buy it and take it home. So I did, and in my studio it sat and sat, looking lonely. I recently took a metal-smithing class and learned to cut and file metal. So viola, the spoon now has a new life as part of this charming necklace. The Shakespeare quotes are from a vintage poetry book, falling apart, found at the flea market. The silver leaf charm was made out of an old screw-back earring, found in a junk bag of jewelry purchased at a local antique store. Everything old and forgotten can have a new use.
My husband often calls me a "hoarder", but I prefer to be called a collector of lost treasures, waiting to be reborn. Those who have been in my house know that It is a far cry from those horrible TV show, where people can't walk through there own homes. Still, I relate to the need to collect and hold on to things that can find a new use. As for the Shakespeare spoon, I'm awfully glad I impulsively bought it at that yard sale last year.
